The formal elements of painting and abstraction interest me, namely color, form, line, shape, surface and a pleasing yet challenging presence within the painting. Nature is the language I speak in my work. I seek to invent a painted surface through color, an awareness of direct brushstroke, and applying paint to the surface while maintaining a connection to earth and water, the sky, plants and dwellings, a messy yet ordered place of color and natural forms. More recently, the horizon has slipped off the picture plane, yet it will most likely reappear.
